Espresso is net als de succesvolle dressuurpaarden Ollright (Laurens van Lieren) en Truman (Raz Nitzani) een product van de combinatie Rubiquil-El Corona. De Grand Prix-dressuurhengst Rubiquil behoort tot ??n van de meest succesvolle zonen van Rubinstein I in de internationale dressuursport. Moeder Kelly werd zelf uitgebracht in de klasse Z2-dressuur en is ook moeder van het Z-dressuurpaard Odessa (Clavecimbel). Uit deze bekende merrielijn (NL-114) komen tevens de GP-dressuurpaarden Ceylon (Leida Strijk) en Baltimore (Patricia Callaghan) alsook de internationale springpaarden Okidoki (Albert Zoer), Toulon (Jonella Ligresti) en Vancouver d?Auvray (Danielle Torano).
